Prince George’s County DPW&T
Prince George’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation (PGCDPW&T) is one of our earliest adopters and the first public agency we ever worked with.
As a long-standing collaborator, the department champions the purpose and effectiveness of our safety innovations. With a business relationship nearly as old as our founding, our story with PGCDPW&T serves as a prime example of what it means to put personnel safety first, and how by doing so we have assisted them in preventing fatal accidents in their work zones.
The Work Zone Accident
“We got our money’s worth. (It) took the shock, I believe it kept our people safe.”
– Ed Jones, Department Lead, PGCDPW&T
Ed Jones, a lead of PGCDPW&T, has been an advocate for innovation, especially when it comes to personnel safety. When it comes to their TPBs, he believes “this truck gives ‘them’ another layer of protection.” No such words had ever been more put to the test at the department than in August 2021.
In August 2021 a tractor-trailer lost control on an exit ramp, entering a manned PGCDPW&T work zone and striking the rear bumper of their TPB. The TPB held firm against the collision, absorbing and deflecting the shock of the impact, and thoroughly stopping the tractor-trailer from further breaching the work zone. All personnel walked away alive and uninjured. Following the incident Jones had this to say: “We got our money’s worth. (It) took the shock, I believe it kept our people safe.”
The FLEET
An overview of PGC DPW&T’s Traffic Pro Bed fleet.
PG 1
PGC DPW&T’s first Traffic Pro Bed (PG1) was a 300 Series Full Traffic Configuration, with Cone Drive, Under-bed Stop/Slow Paddle Box, and a VMS board mounted over the Sign and Stand Boxes. In August 2021, PG1 was involved in a work zone accident in which a tractor-trailer entered a PGCDPW&T work zone. All personnel walk away without injury, the chassis undamaged, but the TPB was totaled by the impact. More on the incident here.
PG 2
PG2, effectively replaced PG1. This build was also a 300 Series Full Traffic Configuration, with Cone Drive, Under-bed Stop/Slow Paddle Box, and a VMS board mounted over the Sign and Stand Boxes. But then has a few key differences, iCone hazard light GPS transmitter, and an Ecco Gemineye backup camera. More about PG2 here.
PG 3
PG3 is identical to PG2, a 300 Series Full Traffic Configuration, with Cone Drive, and a VMS board mounted over the Sign and Stand Boxes. But then has a few key differences, iCone hazard light GPS transmitter, and an Ecco Gemineye backup camera. More about the PG2 build here.
PG 4
PG4 is identical to PG2 and PG3, a 300 Series Full Traffic Configuration, with Cone Drive, and a VMS board mounted over the Sign and Stand Boxes. But then has a few key differences, iCone hazard light GPS transmitter, and an Ecco gemineye backup camera. More about the PG2 build here.
PG 5
PG5 and PG6 are our latest builds for PGC DPW&T. They are 500 Series Full Traffic Configurations, with Cone Drive, icone, back up camera, a rear-mounted VMS board, and Scorpion Metro II Attenuator.

The Value
Throughout our time with PGCDPW&T, we have gotten a lot of feedback from managers, crew members, and department leaders alike. These are the values that they emphasize often.
SAFE
To this day, PGCDPW&T’s fleet of TPBs has been used to effectively bring their traffic personnel and compliant with OSHA, and prevent work zone intrusions from becoming fatal accidents.
EFFICIENT
Teams are on and off sites quicker, and with fewer team members. Set-up and take-down times for work zones have decreased due to the TPB’s set-up system and organization.
ECONOMIC
Reduced annual expenses on cones, stands, and signs because less equipment is lost or damaged there are specialized slots for all equipment on the TPB.
VERSATILE
Useful in many more situations than initially planned, including special events and Game Days at FedEx Field, as well as supporting maintenance and landscaping crews.
